Jury Awards $24 Million in Truck Wreck Case

$24 million award in fatal truck crash

A Will County jury has awarded nearly $24 million to families of two people killed and another seriously injured when a truck crashed into a line of cars on Interstate Highway 55 near Plainfield in April 2004.

Jurors on Friday issued the judgment—the highest verdict amount in a civil case in Will County in at least 50 years—against C.H. Robinson Worldwide, a Minnesota freight broker that had contracted with the truck driver, De An Henry of Utah.

Yes, I remember hearing about this case from my sister in law who lives in Illinois. After researching the case a bit more closely, it was very apparent that some excellent prosecution on behalf of the attorneys for the plaintiff's families. They were somewhat vague within the press as to what in fact was the main culprit of the driver's negligence, but I believe that there were substances and alcohol involved. It is an extremely unfortunate case, yet at least just compensation was fully realized to the mourning families of those who died. Thank you.
