Legal Deadlines Not On Pause During Coronavirus Pandemic

In this time of Coronavirus quarantines, delays, and shut-downs, one thing isn’t slowing down – the time in which you have to file a lawsuit. Even though courts are not conducting regular business, many law firms are working with social distancing policies, or remotely, and electronic court filings still allow us to make our clients’ case filings in the court system.

Kentucky law places time limitations on the length of time in which injured people have to file a lawsuit. Those deadlines are not extended by the Coronavirus shutdown, and they will not be. If lawsuits are not filed by their legal deadline, it is forever too late. So, even though we are practicing social distancing and quarantines, it is important to make sure your case gets on file with the court before its deadline. The deadline to file most negligence cases in Kentucky is one year from the date of the incident, but it can vary depending on the type of case and circumstances.
