E-Cig Explosion Causes Semi Wreck in Indiana

01/06/2016 | Products Liability

A semi crashed on I-65 north in Indiana near the Jackson-Scott County line after an electronic cigarette exploded in the drivers hand.  The truck went onto the shoulder then struck a guardrail, ultimately coming to a stop without striking any other vehicles.  The truck driver suffered injuries primarily from the electronic cigarette exploding in his hand.  Makers and retailers of electronic cigarettes sometimes blame their products’ explosions on the user’s incorrect maintenance, charging, or handling of the product.  It is unclear what cause the e-cig to explode in this case.
